Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants (1)

Tonight was the first game of a three game series that will set the tone for the NL West for the rest of the month leading into the season finale series between these two teams October 1st-3rd that may determine the division - although the Giants want to have clinched it by then, ideally.
Today, I was up in the club level in row G, just to the third base side of the plate, in front of the media boxes. I saw legendary Dodgers commentator Vin Scully in his booth at the end, with the San Francisco television and radio teams in the other boxes. I was sitting next to some friendly Giants fans called Lisa & Joe, and we talked about many of the interesting points throughout the game.
Tonight's game saw Tim Lincecum pitching for us and the recently-acquired Josh Beckett pitching for LA. It was a tight low-scoring game, at least to start with, although Timmy kept on putting Dodgers on base with walks. Fortunately, there was nobody on base when he gave up a home run in the third on a ball that just sneaked onto the walkway atop the right field wall. San Francisco got the run back in the 3rd. LA scored a run in the 6th inning only for the Giants to tie it again in the bottom half of the inning. Then the big inning came in the bottom of the 7th, as the Giants chased Beckett (who had very few pitches, really - only 90 or so) and Scutaro drove in two runs. Another run was added on in the bottom of the 8th and Sergio Romo completed the save in the top of the 9th to send everybody wild.
The chants of "BEAT L.A.!" rang out at various times throughout the game, and then at the end and in Willie Mays Plaza outside the ballpark, as people were queueing for the Muni back to downtown. The Giants' next task is to win at least one of the other two games in the series, so that come the end of Sunday, their lead in the division is greater than at the start of the series.
