Detroit Tigers @ Oakland Athletics (2)

Saturday's game was a day game, starting just after 1pm, which meant that there wasn't really time to do anything of note in the morning.

This is the very last time, for the foreseeable future at least, that I'll be seeing the Oakland A's play.  Their lease at the Oakland Coliseum runs out at the end of this season, and they have decided to move to a brand-new stadium in Las Vegas instead, following the Raiders who made a similar move to their brand-new Allegiant Stadium back in 2020.  The one slight catch for the A's is that their brand-new stadium doesn't actually exist yet and is only projected to be ready for the 2028 season.  So they'll be playing in Sacramento, 100 miles away from Oakland, for the next three years, sharing a stadium with the Giants' AAA team.

It is quite sad for the people of Oakland who wanted the team to stay.  There were lots of people at the end of both games I've been to saying "well, it was nice to see them one last time"  It's not unusual to see a fan on the big stadium screen holding a baby in one hand and a sign saying "My first <team name> game!" in the other - except this time the sign read "My first and last A's game!"

Today's game was as tight as the day before's.  It raced along scorelessly until half way through the game, and even then it was only single-run scores, however this time Detroit managed to get in front and hold on in the 9th inning.  Oakland had a runner on base, so it was an exciting ending where a home run would have won it for Oakland and an out won it for Detroit and a hit likely ties the game so that it would continue.  The batter struck out, and the game was over.

So that's it for the Oakland Athletics.

In the evening, I went down to Jack London Square to try out a new restaurant that I'd not noticed before.  I always used to fit in a visit to Kincaid's, but that closed down a couple of years ago.  Fortunately, there are now a lot more restaurants down on the waterfront than before, and Left Bank is one of the newer ones, only open since last year.  I had a nice, but expensive, dinner and with reasonable portion sizes.  I don't usually sit outside, but at 6.30pm, it was still sunny and warm, so I sat out.  It did get noticably chillier once the sun set behind the buildings, but it was a great place for dinner.  They do need to sort out scheduling though - my main course arrived a couple of minutes before the starter!  The café liégeois I had for dessert was lovely.
