On Saturday evening, when I got back to my hotel, I'd managed to alter my Sunday night flight to the last one of the evening at 11.05pm, instead of earlier. This made it possible for me to be certain that I could go to the game in the afternoon and have dinner somewhere before heading to the airport.
The Giants scored some runs today: two solo home runs, one of which was in the 9th inning to tie the game at 2-2 and send it into extra innings.
Unfortunately, San Diego managed to score 2 runs in their half of the 10th, and San Francisco only managed to score the automatic runner who started at 2nd base, so lost the game 4-3.That means that I've watched them go 1-5 over the six games I've seen, with three more to go in Baltimore, who are good, so it might not go well there either.
I also try to fit in a visit here at sunset because of the views. Thanks to the flight being later, I was able to do just that.
The photos don't really do the view justice. As night gradually falls, the views continue to be stunning.
After dinner I returned to my hotel, was able to use the guest toilet to change and slightly repack things and then head down to the airport.
I took one final photo of Market Street at night before going down to the BART station underground for the trip to the airport.
The flight was just about on time pushing back, toured the taxiways as usual and then we left, heading back East. It was strange leaving in the dark - I've not done that before. The flight is actually a fraction under 5 hours long, but you lose 3 hours on the timezone change too. In retrospect, I should have rejected the dinner that I'd pre-ordered and tried to just sleep However, I'd pre-ordered the chicken so thought that I ought to have it - I wasn't sure at the time. In the end, I hardly slept at all. We arrived a few minutes late at Wshington Dulles.
Once in the terminal, I looked for a restaurant-like place for breakfast. Again, in retrospect, I should have just gone to the Dunkin' Donuts airside and had one of their breakfast packages - they don't only do doughnuts here.
I ended up leaving through security and finding only one open place that had rather unhelpful woman in charge, who gave me a large menu and then when I tried to order something from it said they only served the couple of items in the breakfast section until 9.30! I didn't eat the rubbery scrambled egg that I didn't want. I managed the 4 strips of incinerated streaky bacon and two slices of toast.
I was already tired and irritated, but I was annoyed at the service. I don't think I've ever tipped so low, but it was deserved I thought.
