There is a park area there, that is a very long term project, it seems, as the nature is still being re-installed and built-up. There were lots of signs asking people to stay off the various areas.
If you were wondering what type of berms these are, they may very well be the exploding kind, because this was a military dumping ground in times gone by!
There are some sandy beaches there too on the south side of the bay and then the bridge itself.
I've only ever been over the bridge on a coach tour before, but this time I walked along it.
Lots of people seem to do that, as well as cyclists who, as you'd expect, totally ignore the posted requests to yield to pedestrians and to not cycle faster than 15mph, given that it is quite narrow in places.
It can go from foggy to bright and clear in a matter of moments.
There are a lot more photos in the photo album, including some very interesting photos of fog.
The bridge itself isn't massively long, but it is quite disappointing when you get to the northern end, as there is nothing there - all the displays and exhibitions and welcome centre and things like that are on the San Francisco side.
