Today was moving day - a whole 10 miles all the way from Oakland to San Francisco. Although check-in at the new hotel is supposed to be 3pm, I did the online check-in and said I expected to arrive at 12.30pm. I hung on until the checkout deadline in Oakland at 11am and then crossed the bay and took the 30 bus all the way up to just past the hotel.
This bus always gets very busy with Chinese people, as it runs right through the middle of San Francisco's Chinatown district. I presume that most of these people have monthly MUNI passes, because very few of them ever tag in on the bus. I do, even though I have a pass. Fortunately, these long, bendy, electric buses are very frequent, and there were two fairly close together, so I got on the second one, which meant there was enough space for me and my luggage.
My digital key hadn't turned up on my phone by 12.30, so I went to the front desk, and my room was ready! That was handy, because it meant I could drop my luggage into my room straight away and not have to leave it in the care of reception.
This is the first time I've had a room that doesn't overlook the In-N-Out Burger or Anchorage Square or its multi-story car park. It's much quieter overlooking Beach Street instead, up on the 3rd floor. I've made a note to request this location on future visits.
Getting into my room early was handy, as I could also sort out getting everything ready for my trip down to Levi's Stadium in the late afternoon, to see the 49ers season opener against the New York Jets.
